local authorities

My work with local authorities over the last ten years while at Kent Architecture Centre has included a wide range of projects and programmes, including:

  • working with SEEDA between 2003 and 2008 to deliver a programme of South East Design Champions’ activities for both Councillors and Officers, including Conferences, Seminars and Study Visits

  • Facilitating DQI (Design Quality Indicator) Workshops for project stakeholders, including a new Library and Day Centre  for East Sussex County Council, a new Library complex for Kent County Council

  • developing the Teamwork toolkit, in collaboration with staff from three local authorities, to help stakeholders develop new buildings and public spaces that are inclusive and accessible

  • facilitating Spaceshaper workshops, bringing together stakeholders including managers and users, to assess the quality of an existing public space to help identify key strengths and problems as part of the brief development process

  • acting as Client Design Adviser on an innovative new secondary school in East Sussex

  • engaging with stakeholders to develop the brief for extensive alterations and improvements to a Grade II listed Library in East London

  • carrying out a Feasibility Study for a relocated Community facility in Tunbridge Wells, including community and stakeholder engagement

“I have worked with Annette since 2002 in relation to Urban Design training initiatives with the SEEDA Design Champions Club, and the SEEDA Teamwork project. With  audiences ranging from Councillors, planning professionals, community interests and students,  Annette has been able enagage, inspire and deliver the over-riding message of the importance of design in the built environment and public realm.”
